I just got a bill in the mail for $80 from the dentist. We just had our 6 month check up (for all 3 boys). My first thought was, HOLY CRAP, $80 for just a check up, some x-rays, all boys had perfect check ups (no cavities).
My second thought... What freaking happened to you Abbey?
3 years ago, it would have been a no-brainer to grab a credit card and charge it, and be done with it.
Here's the deal, I grew up with thousands of dollars, probably close to $10,000 or more spent on my teeth because I didn't take care of them... I know it sounds completely unrelated.
But its NOT...
$160 a year to maintain their teeth or my health (check ups) or hundreds, possibly thousands to back track and fix the problems...
I could think of a million other ways to spend $100 a month (on Shakeology)...
My Starbucks habit alone was $125 a month
My soda habit was $77 a month
My kids at the grocery store, at the register and all those impulse items was close to $30
My McDonald's habit (sad but true) was the highest $151 a month
(and yes, I pulled all of this from my bank history- this was also when I was working full time)
$383.00 that I was paying for CRAP!!
Seriously, nothing above was going to get me a 'regular' check up at the doctor.
3 years ago, I charged my first few months of Shakeology, because I could NOT afford to pay for it.
I started to limit how often I went to Starbucks
I completely quit McDonalds (I went 366 days without)
I limited soda to 1 a day
I bribed my kids with something at home before we went to the store.
I am now at home 75% of the time, I have since quit my full time job and I 100% budget Shakeology into my grocery bill monthly.
Here's the deal, It SUCKS cutting out some the treats daily/weekly. But it also SUCKS more knowing that all that money you are wasting or could be using for something else is NOT getting you closer to your goals, or getting healthy.
I have lost all of my pregnancy weight
I have better skin and hair
I have better energy
I don't crave crap all of the time.
I have healthy stats that have remained normal for over 2 years.
I have steady weight for over 3 years (aside from pregnancy).
I don't have to buy or take any vitamins.
